Hello, friend

I’m Dave and I make hooky, layered indie folk that feels like golden hour while lyrically wrestling the tensions of being a human and existing. Stuff like wanting to achieve your dreams, but never being quite able to get there or wanting to be a better person, but always falling to a flaw. When I’m sick of thinking about existential tensions, I’ll write short story, concept, or instrumental songs.

What is The Grow Together Project?

At the beginning of the summer, I was at the funeral of a close friend. I remembered we wrote a Cold War-inspired love song together called 1989, (we had this name first, Taylor) and that, at some point, I recorded it, but you couldn’t listen to it anywhere. It was socked away on an external hard drive where I’ve dumped all my music since high school.

I wanted to remember that moment and went into my external hard drive to find it. While I was there, I saw folders and folders of music. Most of it I’d never shared. I didn’t know why. Maybe Spotify or digital music distribution wasn’t huge when I’d made it? I was shocked at how much I had and I just kept asking, “Why is all this just sitting here?”

So, I grouped songs and wound up with 4 albums and 4 EPs worth of music I was still proud of that I plan on releasing over the next two years. The music spans nearly 10 years of my life and as I’ve put this project together, the theme of slow growth over time has stuck out. This project is more than just music, it’s a chance to be in a community that slows down enough to reflect on how far you’ve come, and how you’ve changed, so you can move forward.
